We sell ASWB exam preparation. That makes this a difficult post to write honestly, so here is the rule we set for it: every price below was checked against the seller's own site on 16 August 2026, and where we could not read a site directly we say so rather than repeating a number we did not verify.
The short answer, if you only read one paragraph: the single most valuable thing you can buy is ASWB's own practice test at US$85, because it is made of real retired exam questions and nothing else on the market is. The single most valuable thing you can get free is the ASWB Examination Guidebook, which contains 37 real exam questions with keys, rationales, and the exact outline statement each one tests. Most people never open it.
Free, and genuinely useful
The ASWB Examination Guidebook. Free PDF, about 80 pages. Beyond the administrative detail, it contains sample questions for the Bachelors/Associate, Masters and Clinical exams — 37 in total — and each one comes with:
- the key,
- a full rationale explaining why the other options fail,
- its cognitive level (recall, application or reasoning), and
- the exact applied knowledge statement it tests, in the form "III Intervention and Practice > IIIA Practice Concepts > Principles and techniques for building and maintaining a helping relationship."
That last line is the part almost nobody uses. It shows you precisely how a published outline statement becomes a question, which is worth more than another hundred practice items from a vendor. There are no Advanced Generalist samples; ASWB directs those candidates to the Masters and Clinical sections.

Our free tier. The whole of chapter 1 — 8 lessons, 15,926 words, 192 questions — readable without an account, plus a 20-question diagnostic weighted across the three content areas. We are including ourselves in this list because the free part is genuinely complete, not a sample that stops at the interesting bit.
ASWB's own practice test — US$85
This is the only product on the market built from questions that have actually appeared on the exam.

The details that decide whether it is right for you:
- Questions "previously used on the Social Work Licensing Exams" — retired live items. No other vendor has these, us included.
- Full length, four hours, one attempt. You take it once; the 30 days is for reviewing it afterwards.
- Available for Associate, Bachelors, Masters and Clinical. There is no Advanced Generalist practice test.
- You must already be registered to buy it. It requires your Authorization to Test number, so it is not something you can use early in preparation.
That last restriction matters for planning. You cannot buy this in month one. It is a late-stage instrument — a genuine dress rehearsal after you have done the work, best used with enough time left to act on what it shows you.
Our honest view: if your budget is $85 and you have your ATT, spend it here rather than with us. One full-length test of real retired items, with rationales, is a better single purchase than any question bank's first eighty-five dollars.

A note on the AATBS row: we could not load their pages, so that range is the one thing in this table we did not confirm at source. We have left it in with the warning rather than quietly dropping a competitor, but check it yourself.
Reading the market honestly
Two things are being sold, and they are not the same product. SWTP and our own bank are question banks: reps and feedback. TDC, Agents of Change and AATBS are courses: someone explains the material to you. If you do not know the content, a bank will tell you that repeatedly without fixing it. If you know the content and keep losing marks to the question format, a course is largely paying to be taught things you already know.
Check that it was rebuilt for August 2026. The blueprint changed — four content areas became three, and ethics went from as little as 19% of the Clinical exam to 36%. SWTP states that all its tests reflect the new format; TDC sells its courses under "August 2026 and Beyond" labels. Anything that does not say so, ask about. Material weighted to the old blueprint is not slightly out of date; it is pointed at the wrong parts of the exam.
Count the questions against the exam, not against each other. The exam is 122 questions. Agents of Change's practice exam is 170. That is not wrong — more practice is more practice — but a "full-length mock" should be the length of the exam if you are using it to rehearse pacing, and the two-hour-per-section structure only rehearses if the mock is built that way.
"Access until you pass" is worth more than it sounds, and several providers offer it. So does a bank you own outright. Six-month windows are the ones to watch, particularly in states that make you complete supervised hours before you may sit — Virginia and Mississippi among them — where your exam date may be years from your purchase date.
What we are, and are not
We are a question bank and a set of written lessons at $59 for lifetime access, which is a fraction of the course providers and more than SWTP's per-exam price. Three things you should know before that is a fair comparison:
Our lessons are marked draft. They have not been through a formal subject-matter-expert review, and we do not claim they have. When that changes, we will say so on the day, and not before.
We have no pass rate to quote you — and neither, honestly, does anyone else. No preparation provider can isolate its own effect on an exam it does not administer and cannot see. Any provider quoting a pass rate for its own product is quoting something it has no way to measure.
We have no retired exam questions. Nobody outside ASWB does. ASWB puts it more bluntly than we would:
Preparation companies want to convince you that they have special insight into the examination process, but no company has special access to the Social Work Licensing Examinations.
What we do have is 124 lessons written one-to-one against the current outline, 1,987+ questions applying to whichever category you sit, 12 full-length mocks built to the real 122-question two-section shape, and the qualifier marked in every stem. And a free chapter big enough to judge all of that before paying anything.

Budget of $85, ATT in hand. ASWB's practice test. Nothing else competes at that price for what it is.
Budget of about $100. ASWB's practice test plus a bank for volume.
Budget of $300 or more, and you do not know the content. A course. That is what they are for, and a bank will not teach you.
Failed once already. Start with your score report, which breaks your result down by content area — the only individualised data anyone will give you. We wrote about what to do with it. Then buy against the weakest area, not against the loudest advertisement.
