Social work licensure in Wyoming

Requirements last verified August 16, 2026 against the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board.

License levels

  • CSWCertified Social Worker

    Requires the ASWB Bachelors exam.

Wyoming’s bachelor’s-level credential: “the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) examination at the Bachelor’s Level or other examination approved by the Board.”

  • PCSWProvisional Clinical Social Worker

    Requires the ASWB Clinical exam.

The provisional clinical credential, and it takes the Clinical exam rather than the Masters one.

  • LCSWLicensed Clinical Social Worker

    Requires the ASWB Clinical exam.

Also the Clinical exam — and you must already have the clinical hours behind you: applicants “must demonstrate the required clinical experience by having completed the hours required for licensure … in no less than eighteen (18) months” before sitting it.

Worth knowing about Wyoming

Wyoming has no master’s-exam license for social workers. There is the Certified Social Worker at bachelor’s level, and then the clinical pair — Provisional Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker — both of which take the Clinical exam. So an MSW graduate here is not preparing for Masters; they are on the Clinical track from the start, and the exam comes after the supervised hours rather than before, with a floor of eighteen months on how quickly those hours can be earned.
