The three functions of social work supervision are administrative, educational, and:
Supervision does three jobs at once: administrative, which covers accountability, workload, and agency and legal requirements; educational, which develops knowledge and skill; and supportive, which sustains the worker through the emotional demands of the work. B names something real, but evaluation belongs inside the administrative function rather than standing beside it as a fourth. C describes a different relationship altogether: a consultant advises and you may decline the advice, whereas your supervisor's direction is not optional. Keeping the three apart explains most of what confuses people about the supervisory relationship.
